Position: Star Kids Minister
Reports To: Discipleship Pastor

Star Baptist Church is looking for a motivated individual who will lead our Children’s Ministry to love God, love the church, and love people. The focus of the ministry is worship, discipleship, fellowship, and evangelism. The children’s minister must be a child of God with a growing relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Candidates must be an active member of their congregation. The children’s minister must love working with children and supporting them and their families. They must be able to work with a team, be a good communicator, be organized, and be willing to delegate tasks. They need to be able to take advice to ensure growth in all areas of our Children’s Ministry, as we seek to make disciples who make disciples.
We are seeking to fill the position as full-time, but bi-vocational or part-time will also be considered.
Below is a list of expectations.
Ministry Supervision
- Develop and provide ministry opportunities
- Provide oversight, encouragement, and guidance to the children, parents/guardians, and volunteers in the Star Kids Ministry
- Engage in the lives of children by attending extra-curricular activities
- Cultivate relationships with parents/guardians and volunteers
- Ensure proper care of the facilities used by the Star Kids Ministry
- Assist staff and church leadership in areas not directly related to the Star Kids Ministry as needed
Leadership Training
- Assemble a team of adult volunteers who will relationally invest in the Star Kids Ministry
- Equip and retain volunteers for the work of the ministry
- Offer formal (structured) and informal (by example) leadership training for parents/guardians and volunteers
- Oversee, with assistance from volunteers, the development of spiritual gifts of the children to ensure opportunities to serve as God has gifted
- Counsel, advise, and provide resources to children, parents/guardians, and volunteers as needed
- Delegate responsibilities for all ministry opportunities to parents/guardians and volunteers
- Train volunteers to take up the mantle of leadership in the event of your absence
- Maintain current records and databases for volunteer contact information, applications, and background checks
- Compile a list of emergency volunteers in the event a scheduled volunteer is absent
- Maintain a well-planned and carefully-balanced program throughout the year in coordination with the other ministries of Star Baptist Church
- Communicate expectations necessary to accomplish the goal of the Star Kids Ministry
- Schedule ministry opportunities up to six months in advance
- Advertise ministry opportunities at least four weeks prior, if possible, across all platforms
- Assess effectiveness and efficiency of ministry opportunities
- Partner with the Star Kids Ministry Committee to manage the budget
- Maintain a personal ministerial calendar of events to be coordinated with the SBC calendar of ministry opportunities
Personal Development
- Attend one conference annually specifically related to Children’s Ministry
- Take afforded number of vacation days to ensure ministry burn-out does not occur
- Establish goals (personal, spiritual, and physical) along with the Pastor, assessing quarterly for accountability
- Develop a plan for personal spiritual growth
